KKOT JIP
KKot Jip (Flower House) is a groovy watering hole in Hongdae with a tropical-retro theme. The back wall is painted bright green and has a glass ceiling which is reminiscent of a green house. The place is flanked with palm trees and banana plants. There are throw pillows, art pieces and a bookshelf in 1960’s inspired designs. The furniture is an eclectic mix of vintage tables and chairs which the owner collected from around the world. Nothing matches, yet everything goes together. Strangely, the whole effect makes you think of a ‘mod’ 60’s house in Florida . Even the music they play makes you feel like doing a psychedelic go-go dance.
Kot Jip also serves decent bar snacks, but the menu is only in Korean. One really great thing to eat there is the “kogi kamja”. It’s marinated bulgogi beef with carrots, potatoes, and pasta.
This bar is frequented by the art/fashion set, so don’t go there wearing business suits. The atmosphere can be mellow, but there can also be rowdy soju drinkers as well. Beers are a good deal at 5000-6000 won. Kot Jip is just off ‘ Parking Lot Street ’ in Hongdae. If you walk from Hongdae station exit 6 in the direction of the Buy the Way intersection, look for the mural (on the left-hand side) of a guy with corn-rows smoking a cigarette. Turn left into this alley and Kot Jip is right there.
