A Club for Every Taste
By Samer Samhoun, 2009-12-02
Seoul, the city that never sleeps… anywhere you go you can see life pumping whether it’s Myeong-Dong or Dongdaemun Stadium, Apkujeong or Gangnam, Sinchon or Hongdae, any day of the week at anytime you can still get what you are searching for.
The part that attracts many Koreans and foreigners alike is the nightlife. You can get any kind of music you like, any kind of drink you like at the price you want if you know where to go.
Recently opened LE NUIT BLANCHE club near Apkujeong, facing prima hotel, has quickly made a name for itself among Seoul's club scene. It has luxury mixed with the newest sound and lighting technologies. Le Nuit Blanche includes two V.I.P areas and often holds events recruiting the best DJ’s in the world (Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi and others). This club is a bit expensive and has a dress code, but it is totally worth it. I highly recommended visiting Le Nuit Blanche if you are looking for an outstanding party.
Staying in Apkujeong, in Rodeo Drive you can find a bar called Monkey Beach, one of the most popular bars among foreigners and Koreans. It’s an exciting place right from the free entrance fee, to the outstanding design and the chance of winning bottles of alcohol during basketball time. The exotic fire show and good music (a mixture of Hip-Hop and house music) allows everyone to have a great time and dance freely. Monkey Beach is recommended for outgoing parties.
Moving around Gangnam we can find two of the most popular clubs in Korea: Harlem and NB (i.e. Noise Basement). They’re known for Hip-hop music, these clubs are usually packed but worth it for the great mood. They're not expensive: when you pay for Harlem you can enter NB and vice-versa. These two clubs can also be found in Hongdae.
Going across the famous Han River we will pass by Iteawon, home to one of the top rated clubs in the world: Club Volume. The place is setting Seoul on fire every weekend. Club Volume is a must-visit club in Seoul. Great house music enlivens high-class events; note that the entrance fee of club volume is not that expensive.
Then there is the paradise of clubs - Hongdae. All around Hongik University are great bars and clubs to please any taste or budget. Starting with the HO bars scattered around the area, then moving to the Ice Bar, and 500 Bar (obek) and the most exciting place Zhen bar with one of the cheapest and greatest bars in Hongdae. Zhen bar offers a Djs, screens, and most inportantly, cheap drinks).
As for soft rock and blues rock lovers there is Seoul Underground, a cozy place with one of the best sounds and the most sentimental band plays live every weekend. The bar itself is a great place to be in, it feels like home.
So, no matter what kind of scene you're into, Seoul has the club for you.

Simon Dunmore In the House
By DJ_S,
Positive. Gregarious. Forthcoming. These are not typical adjectives you’d associate with most label heads, but they certainly apply to the founder of one of house music’s standard-bearing labels, Defected Records of London.
